How is DR calculated?
Domain Rating is a 0–100 score derived from a site's backlink graph — how many distinct domains link to it, and how authoritative those linking domains are themselves.
Is a higher number always better?
It's one signal among many, not a ranking guarantee. A high-DR site with thin, unfocused content still loses to a lower-DR site that's the clear topical authority on the exact query someone searched.
Why only Domain Rating, not backlinks or referring domains too?
DR comes from Ahrefs' public, free endpoint. Backlink and referring-domain counts require their paid API — we're not going to fake those numbers here.
Is Domain Rating (DR) the same as Domain Authority (DA)?
No — they're separate metrics from different companies. DR is Ahrefs' 0–100 backlink-strength score; DA is Moz's equivalent, calculated differently. Neither is a Google ranking factor, and the two numbers for the same site are often different.
